It’s Hong Kong in 1970s. Tai Chan-Wah is the only child from an attorney’s family, and a law student. Regardless of objection from his parents, he marries a girl, Suk-Fun from an orphanage.  Soon, Suk-Fun gives birth to triplets. After a short period of happiness, bad luck strikes the family. Suk-Fun is diagnosed of an incurable disease while Chan-Wah himself has early cancer.
